Yesterday was a great day in Central Park. About 60,000 people got together at the Great Lawn in order to be a part of the 2015 Global Citizen Festival. I was lucky enough to be one of those 60,000! By noon, the line to get into the concert stretched out for ten blocks. It took my friend and I half an hour just to get to the end of the line.
Everyone around us was filled with excitement and anxiousness. With so many people trying to get to concert, some were concerned if they were even going to be let in (this included myself). Ten block walk, many potential emotional breakdowns and three hours later, I was finally let in! My spot at the Great Lawn was great, minus the huge tree that blocked the screen and 95% percent of the stage. To be honest, I was less concerned about my view. Besides, I intended to be sit on the grass and enjoy the music.
Stephen Colbert and Hugh Jackman opened up the show with a hilarious comedy pit. From there, Coldplay was announced. The crowd went from sitting on their beach towels to abandoning their belongings to see the band perform their greatest hits (Viva la Vida and Sky Full of Stars). In the middle of their set, Ariana Grande made a surprise appearance for Just a Bit of Your Heart. This made several fangirls run closer to the barricades, in hopes to catch a glimpse of the "Bang" singer. I wasn't so fascinated by her appearance, but I will admit that she has an AMAZING voice.
Right after Coldplay, Ed Sheeran went on. Compared to Coldplay, Ed had more time to perform. Out of all the headliners, I was really excited to see Ed. My friend and I could not resist belting out the lyrics. The people around us were fascinated by the fact that we knew all the lyrics. Once he sang Thinking Out Loud and Don't, most of the crowd sang a lot. Not to mention Chris Martin came back on stage to perform Thinking Out Loud with Ed. Seeing Ed Sheeran perform made me smile like an idiot. It's easy to see that he's very passionate and concentrated on his music.
Finally, QUEEN BEY GRACED US WITH HER PRESENCE!!! The whole performance was just breathtaking. So much time, effort and production was put into it. It was as if I went to the On The Run Tour in 2014. All 60,000 people in the audience was in awe as Beyoncé strutted across the stage performing all her songs. These songs included; Survivor, Halo, Love on Top, Crazy In Love (to name a few). I felt as if my childhood was flashing before my eyes.
To everyone's surprise, Jay-Z didn't perform with her. Ed Sheeran did! The two of them did a slow rendition of Drunk In Love. At the end of Beyoncé's performance, she surprised us all by introducing First Lady Michelle Obama! Michelle Obama spoke about the importance of females having the same education as males. Overall, Global Citizen Festival was an amazing experience! I would definitely recommend to everyone and anyone. It is a greatest free-ticketed event of the year. Until 2016 Global Citizen!
